Christmas is near!

Wyatt's friends are quite obedient little boys. Clean up the room? Sure, we'll just take everything off the floor, out of the toybox, and off the bookcase......and pile it on the bed!

Last minute shopping, making and homemade baking! This will be our first Christmas with 2 children. Bing Crosby is crooning White Christmas, peanut butter mouse cookies are baking and Wyatt is happily painting. Thank you God for sending your Son. We celebrate His birth with joy in our hearts!

Mouse and Popsicle Stick People

Good news! We have a computer again!!! Yeah!!! I still can't edit my photos yet, but at least I can keep up with the rest of the world now!

I finally feel like making things again! Here is a pretty brown mouse I created for my cousin who is due 1-1/2 weeks before me. She's all dressed for cooler weather b/c I'm betting October is a pretty cold month in Montana. I love the yarn pom pom I made for her hat. I'd never done that before. I was shopping for kitchen curtain fabric and came across this bright floral. I couldn't put it down. The colors really inspired me and I knew it would be just right for a sweet baby girl with a redheaded mother. :o)
Popsicle People. Wyatt loved these! We made them together and he played with them all afternoon. Great craft for a 2 yr old! I am so excited that he knows his colors now and had very definite opinions on hair and clothes colors. All I did was cut out semi decent shapes of clothes and put slits in them so he could slide them on and off. We drew on the faces with a regular old pen........he gave the men and women hairy chests with his scribbles and WaLa! Popsicle people. Featured here, are a baby and his mama.

Birds and Victoria Magazine

I've been busy!! This week I started art classes and they went well. I forget how much I like to teach until I'm actually doing it. I get a little shy meeting new people. Actually, they probably don't know I'm shy. I've learned to not let on, but I am so tired afterwards. Anyway, today I listened to Christmas carols and made ornaments. I really like these birds. I think they could even make a lovely mobile for a nursery. I took the idea from a Victoria magazine. I don't usually copy peoples artwork. In fact, it makes me mad when others do. I mean, come on, have a little imagination.......but I guess I'm guilty of it too once in a while, although I am quick to tell you that somebody else thought it up! It's a lot of work to come up with patterns and original ideas! On another note, what do you think about the newly revised Victoria magazine? Any other fans out there?....well I used to be a fan. It's just not the same. The photos aren't as good, and what is with the clothes and models? The look of it is strange. The articles aren't as interesting and it seems that it is more about selling various products than having the "feel" of whimsy and romance. I was so excited to see its return! Jon even bought me a subscription for my birthday.......here's to hoping they iron out the kinks!

Summer Squirrel, mouse, puppy

I've been having a lot of fun making things lately. Last night I sat down with some brown checked fabric, started cutting and discovered this cute little squirrel. I love those moments when I can just cut and sew and see what happens. Patterns are nice, but sometimes it's so much better to create and see where your imagination takes you! The little bean bag mouse is my first attempt at making a dress. I think it turned out nice and summery. My husband told me he was going to pull out the sewing machine and oil it tonight. I know I need to learn to use it. I don't know why I have such a fear of the thing. It will more than likely make my sewing life much easier. I've never been a seamstress. I've always just been a fine artist.... you know....paint, pastels. regular artsy things. Now, I'm not sure what I am, but there are so many ideas in my head and no time to let them loose. I told my mom that I need to go somewhere where I can just sew all day and just produce. Then maybe I can sleep at night. I mean, there must be something really weird about me. How many people do you know that check out a 1970's pattern book from the library and get so inspired by the possibilities that they can't sleep? Yep, I'm the weirdo.......but I'm a fun weirdo. :o)

Pooped puppies

I'm pooped. I feel like we have been going and going like crazy.....weddings, anniversary, birthdays, DFW. I just want to stay home for a while. Wyatt agrees with me! He's been so fussy. He's getting all his teeth in at once and I can't for the life of me figure out what he is allergic to. I mean I know some things but there is something that is alluding me.

I'll be doing a free giveaway in the next two weeks. I'll have to look through my stash of little animals and see what's there. I really need names for the puppies I'm working on. I want to embroider each one's name on their ear. Any suggestions? I think I'm going to put them in a cardboard box and write a child-like sign that says "Puppies 4 Sale". I still have a pink one to make and a runt......

Tilly

Isn't she cute? I really want to keep her, but I can't keep doing that! Tilly is now for sale in my etsy shop. Never heard of an etsy shop? It's an online store specifically for handcrafted goods.

Baby Wyatt Baby Tip

Wyatt was in fine form this morning! Check out his special rings. I bet he could give a knockout punch with those!

Baby Tip is born! The proud parents, Pilly and Stuffie Bunny are very excited about their new progeny! If your wondering that they only just met, well..... bunnies do things a little speedier than humans. :o)

Canton Finds

LinkMy "softie" came! Meet, Becky's Bunny. Isn't she cute? She's made from an old sheet and came with a little bag (in Wyatt's room with him sleeping....don't want to disturb) becky's the one that inspired me to make "Stuffie". Oh, by the way Pilly is really glad Stuffie came. (I think he's in love. Click here for a photo of the action I caught on film. It's getting pretty serious and there may be baby bunnies soon.) It's so sad. Becky's Bunny used to have a little bow around her neck but alas it broke. She's still cute though. You can check out Becky's blog here.

Here are the promised pics from Canton. if you have never been, you have to go! It's like a giant garage sale + antique store+fair all rolled into a gianormous place that takes days to see everything! Wyatt kept getting freebies b/c he was so cute. He got several free toys from the vendors. Check out the bell sitting on my new $3 piano bench. Yep, he won a sweet lady-vendor's heart when he rung her bell, "Oh, he can just keep it! He's so cute!" I don't know why it didn't work for Renee and I? Aren't we cute? :o) Let's see. Got a few fabrics. The woodland fabric is going to become a few quilted blankets I think, bark cloth, maybe this will be a bag?......apron for me to wear in the kitchen and look adorable and floral bark cloth.....

which became Milla the Art Pig. She is my favorite so far. Oh and I found some bright floral oil cloth (pic with piano bench above) to cover my free red"trash chairs". Oil cloth wipes off really well, so I think I'll use them for my art classes.

"up"and "down"

This has been a crazy week. Sorry if it seems like I dropped off the face of the planet! I just dropped Renee off at the airport. We enjoyed her visit so much. She taught Wyatt the difference between "up"and "down" and all sort of new songs. What a great aunt! Saturday we spent the entire day at Canton. The ENTIRE day! We found so much cool stuff. I'll post pictures later. I made a pig late last night from fabric I found there. When the creative bug hits there's no stopping it! She's an art pig. I gave her a belly button ring, a mini tote bag with a sketchbook and pencil that slips inside. She's pretty funky. You can check her out here. Jon, Renee and I played monopoly. I lost miserably and Jon won. He beat out his big sister and wife. He kept trying to keep me from bankruptcy by giving me free money and property......but I just really, really lost. I have such a sweet husband! Wyatt started semi-walking last night. He walks forward holding only one hand and he's using his little push cart....never did any of that until last night. Toddlerville here we come!!!

Wyatt and Stuffie

I'm just taking a little minute to blog before my day continues. I pick Renee up from the airport in an hour. Here is my latest softie. Meet Stuffie! You can view more of her here. I made her out of an old sheet. I love her funky head and the fact that she is sooo soft. I hate throwing out old sheets and pillowcases when the rip. It's the old ones that are the softest and have the most memories. If you have an old sheet or pillowcase that you are hanging on to for the memories and not the use of it, then drop by my house and we can make softies together!

Can I just say my son is sooo cute! He has this natural curiosity that I love to watch but hate to clean up.

Where did the car go?

Meet Meli

So you were all right! I guess I wasn't mysterious enough. Meli is a little lamb and she is on her way to her new owner right now. I'm going to miss her! She's made from an old sweatshirt I found thrifting. I have to say it was the ugliest thing I've ever seen, but it makes the sweetest sheep. The fuzzy part is the *outside* of the shirt!

Rag dolls and secret identity

Can you guess what kind of animal "Meli" is?

Yesterday a few of my friends got together and we made rag dolls for a prison ministry. Everyone's dolls were so creative and adorable....mine is just plain weird. I think it's one of the ugliest things I've ever made. Anyway, you can see the dolls here. Can you guess what kind of animal my softie for the crafty daisies "softie swap" is? It's going out in the mail tomorrow.

A Creative Life

I've been internet researching for my art camps this summer and have come across some really fun stuff. I love this recipe I found! You can check out her blog heresoulemama Also, click on this link 100Ideas for 100 things you can do if your bored or need that little spark of creativity!

how we make dinner

Soup2

With LOTS of help, of course. Seems to me the only way to get dinner made these days is to have someone across the kitchen island from me - either helping with my dinner plan, or more likely, choosing to work on their own dinner plan. Today, a favorite recipe of Adelaide's.

Needed:
every measuring cup, spoon and wooden spoon in the house
sifter - optional, but strongly desired
an apron - like Mama (or Papa) - (additional clothing optional)

Ingredients:
3 cups dinner-in-progress scraps - carrots, onions, leeks - anything will do
8 cups water - carried - cup by cup - across the kitchen
2 cups mystery pantry food - unidentifiable, forgotten dried beans? Yup.
2 tiny precious drops - something chosen from the fridge door
6 parts - clean up
2 parts - patience
10 parts - laughter

Mix & stir until everything has been added. If the other dinner isn't done yet, um....add more water. At this point, the excitement can usually be transferred to setting the table (seriously), 'showing' the soup to everyone, and then...carrying it very carefully to its ultimate destination outside with much fanfare.

We call it Compost Soup.

Silly Turnip LIVES!

I don't usually post on the weekend b/c I want to spend every moment I can with Jon. But, I just have to tell you about what he did for me! He bought me a domain name! Most husbands buy flowers or chocolates (he's gotten me both in the last 2 weeks) but my husband has bought me a domain on the internet. sillyturnip.com Yep, I have a .com! He also created a logo for me (click on the Silly Turnip link on the bottom right to see. It's under the Label category)There is nothing on my .com yet but there will be. I have plans! :o) Do you know, I feel very close to God when I'm creating something. It's almost like my needle and thread are magical or something. I know it's not really but it feels like it. When I start sewing I feel like a door has opened and there are endless possibilities before me. What kind of sweet face should my little critter have? I absolutely adore cutting up old clothes and forming them into something unexpected and new! Is she into flowers or bows? What kind of cool tights would she wear? It's like I'm creating an actual living being. I know I'm not but it feels like it. I wonder what God felt when he created us. The endless possibilities. The endless combos. Everyone has an absolutely unique fingerprint! I heard a song on the radio yesterday that kept repeating 'There is nothing good in me, only Jesus." I don't agree with that song. I might have years ago but I think the very fact that God made us means there is something good in us. Now, our sin nature, that is NOT good. Anyway I don't want to theologianize right now....I want to sew! Check out Wyatt's new monkey I made at midnight a few days ago....and then of course there is Maria, which you have probably seen on my Flikr site. I love her! She is bossy and very into singing loudly above anyone else. She knows how to make french toast and believes that her next door neighbor has a magical fruit tree in the backyard. She's read a little too much Narnia. Yes, I know I'm a bit crazy...but it's fun! :o)

Happy Birthday Wyatt!

This is one blessed child! Thank you everyone for Wyatt's gifts and cards! I let him play with all his birthday cards. I lined them up on the coffee table and one by one he "read" each one like a book , threw it on the ground and moved on to the next one. Notice the living rm pic. He started at the coffee table, worked his way over all the couches and ended in front of the TV. That was a first! I've let him watch a lot of Baby Einstein today. He has a pretty bad ear infection. My mom made a cat card for Wyatt. Isn't it cool? Here he is opening the box that Auntie Ne, Uncle Brian and cousin Samuel sent him.

Gettin' Crafty @ Oma & Opa's House

It's hard not to be creative at my parent's house!
